Keywords: team, virtual team, team management, virtual management, SWOT analysis, remote work

Abstract

A new management reality comes with an increased emphasis on remote work. Teams need a digital communication strategy, and managers need adaptation to manage employees remotely. Organizations need tools capable of conducting a complex analysis of the feasibility of implementing virtual team management and the virtual teams' organization, assessing organizational readiness for remote virtual work and the company's capabilities of switching to such work organizing. The goal is to study approaches to understanding the essence of virtual teams and to define, on this basis, a methodological toolkit for a complex analysis of virtual team management and the feasibility of its implementation in the work of virtual teams in organizations in Ukraine. The authors systematized approaches to understanding the essence of virtual teams and their key characteristics, developed strategies for using SWOT analysis of virtual team management in the organization and projected the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the implementation of virtual team management and the organization of the work of virtual teams. The article includes the development of a generalized SWOT matrix of the virtual team management implementation and the virtual team's work organization. Virtual teams involve the remote collaboration of performers, usually outside offices, using digital technologies. The main characteristics of virtual teams include the desire to achieve a common goal, geographical distribution (different time zones), communication through digital channels using digital technologies, cross-border cooperation, a high degree of flexibility and efficiency, speed of response to changes in the market environment, etc. Such features of virtual teams require finding approaches to justifying the implementation of virtual team management and organizing the work of virtual teams for organizations in Ukraine. The conclusion was that such an approach is a SWOT analysis of virtual team management in the organization. The developed SWOT matrix can be applied to exploit opportunities and minimize threats by using strengths and overcoming weaknesses for organizations in Ukraine. The basis of the framework is the development of strategies which include using the strengths and overcoming weaknesses to exploit external opportunities and reduce threats.
