IMPERATIVES OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC SECURITY OF AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISES IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Keywords: agricultural sector, agricultural enterprise, ecological and economic security, sustainable development, agroecosystems, food security

Abstract

The article examines the problem of ensuring the eco-economic security of agricultural enterprises within the framework of sustainable development, which has become increasingly relevant under the conditions of environmental degradation, climate change and growing economic instability. The purpose of the study is to substantiate a comprehensive approach to the formation of eco-economic security based on the integration of economic efficiency, environmental sustainability and social responsibility. The research is based on a combination of general scientific and special methods, including system analysis, abstraction, comparison, and modelling, which made it possible to identify key factors influencing the stability of agricultural enterprises and to structure their interrelations. The results of the study demonstrate that eco-economic security should be considered as a complex, multidimensional category reflecting the balance between resource use, production efficiency and environmental impact. A system of indicators has been developed to assess the level of security, covering environmental, economic and social dimensions. In addition, a conceptual model has been proposed that integrates institutional mechanisms, resource potential and management tools, allowing for a comprehensive assessment and improvement of enterprise performance under changing external conditions. Particular attention is paid to the role of innovative and environmentally oriented practices in enhancing resilience and reducing risks. The practical value of the study lies in the possibility of applying the proposed approaches and model in the management activities of agricultural enterprises to improve decision-making, optimise resource use and strengthen long-term sustainability. The findings may also be useful for policymakers in designing effective strategies for the sustainable transformation of the agricultural sector, especially in conditions of post-crisis recovery and increasing global environmental and economic challenges. Furthermore, the proposed framework contributes to the formation of adaptive management systems capable of responding to uncertainty, supporting balanced development, and ensuring the long-term viability of agricultural enterprises in a rapidly changing external environment.
