FEATURES OF TOURISM RESERVATION SYSTEMS

Abstract

The article examines the role and features of reservation systems in the tourism industry as a key tool for managing services and ensuring competitiveness. The study emphasizes that the development of digital technologies has facilitated the transition from manual accounting to global electronic networks, providing rapid access to a wide range of services – from booking flights and hotels to car rentals and complex tours. The advantages of online reservation systems, including convenience, accessibility, speed, and diversity of offers, are outlined, while attention is also drawn to the challenges and risks associated with their functioning. The study analyzes types of reservation systems – global, local, and corporate – and characterizes leading international services such as Booking.com, Hotels.com, and Airbnb, along with global distribution systems (Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre, Worldspan). Examples of their development and application in the international and Ukrainian markets are provided. The study concludes that the active implementation of reservation systems is a crucial factor in improving service quality and strengthening the competitive position of tourism enterprises in modern conditions. The practical value of the research lies in demonstrating the benefits of integrating digital reservation technologies into business processes in the tourism sector. Furthermore, the study highlights the impact of computerization on the growing trend of independent online booking. In addition, it outlines the specific features of services that extend beyond accommodation to include supplementary tourist products, thereby shaping new standards of service provision. It is shown that the further development of reservation systems is closely linked to advances in digital technologies and the increasing expectations of consumers, which in the future will foster greater personalization and automation of tourism services. The findings may be of interest not only to researchers, but also to tourism practitioners seeking to optimize business processes. The results of the analysis confirm that effective reservation systems are becoming a determining factor in shaping the modern model of global tourism. This underlines the strategic importance of digitalization as a driver of competitiveness in the tourism market.
