DEVELOPMENT OF THE HOTEL AND RESTAURANT INDUSTRY OF KAMYANTS-PODILSK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XXI CENTURY
Abstract
The article is devoted to the coverage of some aspects of the current state of development of the hotel and restaurant industry of Kamianets-Podilskyi, in particular quantitative indicators, gradation by service level, belonging to different types of national cuisines. The author of the article also uses some statistics of annual tourist visits for 2016-2023 in order to highlight the tourist potential of the city and the importance of the hotel and restaurant segment in the context of the further development of Kamianets-Podilskyi as a local center of tourism and recreation. One of the system centers of the hospitality industry in Ukraine is Kamianets-Podilskyi, which is rightly called the "tourist pearl of Podillia". The hotel and restaurant infrastructure in the city owes its development primarily to the hundreds of thousands of tourists who come here every year. In recent years, the number of tourists in Kamianets-Podilskyi has fluctuated between 160,000 and 240,000 tourists per year. Peak indicators were noted in 2008-2010 as well as in 2016-2017. From 30 to 50% of arriving tourists stay in the city for at least one night, that is, they use the services of local hospitality establishments. Thus, the appropriate level of development of the hotel and restaurant industry is an important factor contributing to the growth of the city's tourist attraction. Іn 1990-2023, dozens of new hotel-type enterprises appeared. Today, the city has 92 accommodation establishments, of which 34 are hotels. The restaurant industry in Kamianets-Podilskyi is also an important element of the city's tourist attraction. In total, as of 2023, more than 145 food establishments are operating within its borders, which are represented in all service segments – from coffee shops to restaurants of fine cuisine. Finally, the author states that, despite the difficult state of the hotel and restaurant industry in Ukraine, caused by the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, the large-scale phase of which began on February 24, 2022, the hotel and restaurant industry of Kamianets-Podilskyi continues to function and to develop, maintaining strong potential in the medium and long term.
