Abstract

The United Kingdom is one of the most attractive countries in the world for the development of cultural tourism. Its rich history, numerous architectural landmarks, museums, theatres, university centers, legends about the royal family, literary heritage, and cultural traditions attract millions of tourists every year. The purpose of this article is to explore the characteristics of cultural tourism in the United Kingdom, analyze its potential, and identify development trends in the modern context. The following methods were used in the research: analysis and synthesis (to study scientific literature, official documents, and statistical materials); statistical method (to process quantitative indicators of visits to cultural sites); system approach (for a comprehensive analysis of cultural tourism as a multifaceted phenomenon); prognostic method (to determine the prospects for cultural tourism development considering current trends); and generalization method (to formulate conclusions and recommendations for the further development of cultural tourism in the United Kingdom). The article analyzes the current state and development trends of cultural tourism in the United Kingdom, which is among the world’s leading tourist destinations. The resource potential of the country is highlighted, including UNESCO World Heritage sites, museums, castles, theatres, university centers, and cultural events. The geography of cultural tourism is considered, with London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, Cambridge, and others identified as the main centers. Statistics on the attendance of historical and cultural attractions in 2024 are presented, including the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, the National Gallery, Edinburgh Castle, and others, showing the growing popularity of these sites among tourists. Special attention is given to the active implementation of digital technologies in the museum sector, the development of event tourism, and the integration of traditional culture with creative industries. Cultural festivals and gastronomic journeys, which shape the country’s tourist appeal, are also emphasized. The importance of sustainable development, the preservation of cultural heritage, and ensuring the accessibility of tourism resources for different population groups is underlined. Finally, the role and significance of cultural tourism for the tourism industry of the United Kingdom are revealed.
