DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN UKRAINE AGAINST THE BACKGROUND OF STRUCTURAL AND INNOVATIVE CHANGES IN THE CONTEXT OF MILITARY CONFLICT

Abstract

The impact of military conflict on higher education in Ukraine has necessitated structural and innovative transformations within universities. This study explores how these institutions have adapted to new societal challenges and their role in social recovery post-conflict. The hypothesis posits that higher education institutions, through innovative approaches and social responsibility initiatives, significantly contribute to societal development and recovery in war conditions. The objective is to analyse the adaptation strategies of Ukrainian higher education institutions to the challenges posed by the military conflict and their contributions to social recovery. Employing qualitative research methods, including case studies and content analysis of academic and governmental reports, the study investigates the innovations in teaching, research, and community engagement fostered by these circumstances. Results indicate a swift transition to online learning platforms ensuring educational continuity, an increase in social responsibility initiatives aiding war-affected individuals, and enhanced collaboration with NGOs and government bodies to address pressing social issues. Universities have integrated sustainable development and social responsibility principles into their curricula, fostering a responsible societal approach among students. Conclusions underline the pivotal role of higher education in societal resilience and recovery in times of conflict. The findings suggest the necessity for further research on the long-term impacts of these educational innovations and the effectiveness of social responsibility programs in post-war community rebuilding. This study contributes to understanding the dynamic role of higher education in addressing and adapting to societal challenges presented by military conflicts, emphasizing the importance of innovative approaches and social responsibility in fostering societal development and recovery. The research highlights the critical need for continuous innovation in educational strategies and a deeper engagement with societal needs, ensuring universities remain at the forefront of social change and recovery efforts in post-conflict settings.
