INVESTMENT ACTIVITY IN UKRAINE AFTER FULL SCALE INVASION TO UKRAINE

Keywords: повномасштабне вторгнення

Abstract

This article examines the nature and characteristics of attracting investments to Ukraine during wartime, identifies promising economic sectors for investment, and evaluates the repercussions for the country and investors. The study examines the dynamics of foreign investments in Ukraine, highlighting the most significant trends and influencing factors. The research employs a variety of techniques, such as induction, deduction, synthesis, comparison, graphical analysis, and modeling. The study analyzes the dynamics of Ukraine's investment attraction and forecasts investment volumes. It identifies the most promising sectors for investment before and after February 24, 2022, as well as the changes in investment dynamics within the industries most impacted by military operations. In addition, the research investigates the role of investments in economic development and the improvement of social security, as well as foreign experiences in attracting investments to nations experiencing hostilities or military conflicts. Prior to 2022, the primary investment sectors in Ukraine were industry, wholesale and retail trade, real estate operations, financial and insurance activities, the information technology sector, and the professional and scientific research sector. The military invasion altered the potential for investment in these sectors. Due to the high mobility of its workforce, the IT industry was least impacted, whereas the metallurgical industry suffered the most severe damage and investment decline, primarily due to the location of its facilities in occupied territories or areas under constant attack. The primary goals of attracting and utilizing investments in Ukraine are stimulating economic growth, ensuring efficient use of state property, addressing infrastructure and service quality issues, and bolstering the social security of the population. It is of the utmost importance to guarantee the safety of investments during and after wartime. The findings of this study provide insights into investment opportunities and challenges in Ukraine during its ongoing conflict and contribute to a better understanding of the role of investments in the economic resilience and social well-being of the country.
