ACCESSIBILITY IN TOURISM: CHALLENGES FOR UKRAINE
Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of barrier-free tourism, which in today's conditions is becoming particularly relevant in view of ensuring the sustainable development of Ukrainian society. The purpose of this study is to reveal the state of accessibility of physical environment objects and services for people with disabilities in tourism and to outline the challenges that arise on the way to the formation of a barrier-free space. The research methods are based on systemic and dialectical approaches to the analysis of socio-есопоmic phenomena. Methods of theoretical generalization were used to define the inclusion paradigm; a comparative analysis method was implied to establish the real indicators of barrier-free space in social and tourism infrastructure. The article reveals measures to implement the tasks of the National strategy for creating a barrier-free space in Ukraine for the period until 2030 in a number of areas. The current state of accessibility of social infrastructure components for persons with disabilities is analyzed. The article indicates to its low level at such objects as railway stations, state roads, and civil defense facilities. The analysis of the state of accessibility in tourism was carried out based on a study of accommodation facilities by various indicators. The highest level of infrastructure accessibility is traced by such criteria as parking, separate parking spaces for vehicles of persons with disabilities, barrier-free entrance to the territory, and the lowest level is traced by the criteria of internal equipment of buildings, the availability of places for persons with disabilities in public spaces and a number of rooms adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities, and information accessibility. The practical value of the article lies in defining challenges on the path to barrier-free tourism related to the unsatisfactory state of the material and technical base of most institutions, limited financial and investment resources for its renewal, and inadequate control over compliance with building standards.
