DEVELOPMENT OF REMOTE BANKING SERVICES IN UKRAINE

Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive and multifaceted assessment of the current state and strategic perspectives of remote banking services development in Ukraine within the context of the total digitalization of the global financial sector. It is argued that in the modern economic landscape, remote banking has evolved from a secondary technological option into a fundamental pillar of the banking system's resilience and a core element of national financial stability. The study thoroughly analyzes the dynamics of innovative technology implementation, placing a specific focus on mobile banking ecosystems, contactless payment solutions, and the rapid expansion of Neo-banking platforms as primary drivers of institutional competitiveness and customer loyalty. The author substantiates that the shift toward a "mobile-first" strategy is no longer merely a trend but a critical necessity for maintaining market positions in a highly volatile and competitive environment. Detailed identification of the fundamental advantages of digital transformation is provided for both credit institutions and consumers. These advantages include the significant optimization of operational costs through the reduction of physical infrastructure, enhanced transaction speed, increased transparency of financial flows, and the provision of round-the-clock accessibility to a wide range of financial instruments. A significant part of the research is dedicated to evaluating the profound impact of exogenous shocks, most notably the COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale military invasion. These events acted as unprecedented catalysts for the forced migration of banking processes into the digital dimension, testing the technical infrastructure, server stability, and the overall adaptability of management models under extreme conditions. The research emphasizes that the ability of the banking sector to maintain operations during energy deficits and communication disruptions has set a new global benchmark for financial sector endurance. The paper highlights critical challenges that accompany this digital leap, particularly those related to cybersecurity, data privacy, and the widening digital divide among different population segments. It is emphasized that maintaining consumer trust depends on the ability of banks to implement robust "cyber resilience" frameworks and advanced encryption protocols. The findings suggest that the further evolution of remote banking services in Ukraine will depend on the deep integration of artificial intelligence for predictive analytics, machine learning for credit scoring, and blockchain technologies for secure, decentralized transactions. Furthermore, the study explores the potential of Open Banking initiatives and the integration with state digital platforms to enhance financial inclusion and simplify the onboarding process for new users. Practical recommendations are formulated for enhancing the regulatory framework and aligning it with European Union standards, specifically the Payment Services Directive 2, to ensure the long-term resilience and transparency of the banking system in a volatile economic environment.
