THE KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY AS A FACTOR OF INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF TRADING ENTERPRISES: MANAGERIAL MECHANISMS AND DIGITAL TOOLS
Abstract
The article substantiates the strategic role of the knowledge economy as a fundamental determinant of the innovative development of trading enterprises in Ukraine, considering current wartime challenges and the logic of post-war recovery. The relevance of the research is driven by the global transition to a knowledge-based development model, where data, digital platforms, and organizational learning replace traditional material resources as primary competitive advantages. The study aims to generalize the theoretical foundations of the knowledge economy and to develop a comprehensive set of managerial mechanisms and digital tools to enhance the innovation activity, resilience, and adaptive capacity of retail businesses. The methodology is based on a combination of systemic, structural-functional, and scenario approaches, complemented by content analysis of contemporary institutional initiatives and digital business support frameworks in Ukraine. The research proves that sustainable development in trade is determined by the maturity of internal knowledge management and the ability to convert operational data flows into strategic assets. The paper systematizes key barriers to innovation, such as financial constraints, uneven digital maturity, cyber risks, and the shortage of "digital leaders" capable of integrating complex IT solutions into flexible business models. A significant result of the study is the development of a scenario framework for the development of trading enterprises, including breakthrough, adaptive, and inertial trajectories. Furthermore, the author proposes a strategic matrix of knowledge transformation to identify an enterprise's position based on its digital innovation level and knowledge management maturity. This diagnostic tool allows managers to move from general declarations of digitalization to targeted organizational programs. The practical value of the work lies in the substantiated recommendations for the integration of CRM, ERP, and Business Intelligence systems into a unified information loop for decision-making. The study highlights the importance of participating in public-private ecosystems like "Diia.Business" and the "eRobota" program to compensate for internal resource shortages and accelerate technological modernization. The findings confirm that the applied framework of the knowledge economy significantly increases the flexibility and long-term competitiveness of trading enterprises in a highly uncertain environment.
