ORGANIC PRODUCTION AS AN INSTRUMENT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF UKRAINE’S AGRARIAN ECONOMY UNDER CRISIS CONDITIONS

Abstract

The article examines organic production as a tool for sustainable development of Ukraine’s agrarian economy under crisis conditions caused by full-scale military actions and European integration processes. The relevance of the research is determined by the increasing importance of agricultural environmentalization in the context of the European Green Deal and the tasks related to post-crisis economic recovery. The purpose of the study is the theoretical and empirical substantiation of the role of organic agricultural production in strengthening the sustainability and competitiveness of the agrarian sector under wartime conditions. The methodological framework of the research is based on the use of systemic and structural analysis, statistical methods, comparative assessment and generalization of empirical data, which made it possible to analyze the dynamics of the organic sector, the production structure and economic performance indicators. The results of the study show that despite crisis challenges, organic agriculture in Ukraine demonstrates adaptive capacity and maintains economic viability. The analysis confirms the growth and preservation of certified organic farmland, the structural dominance of grain and oilseed crops in the organic production profile, and high levels of economic efficiency. The profitability of organic agribusiness remains consistently high, significantly exceeding the average performance of conventional agricultural production and determining the strong investment attractiveness of the organic sector. Special attention is paid to identifying key constraints on the development of organic production in crisis conditions, including increased operating costs, certification barriers, logistical disruptions and wartime risks. At the same time, organic production is considered a strategic instrument for reducing dependence on imported inputs, restoring soil fertility and ensuring access to premium markets. The practical value of the research lies in the formulation of strategic directions for the further development of organic agricultural production in Ukraine, including the expansion of processing capacities, stimulation of the domestic market and strengthening of state support mechanisms in accordance with European Union policies.
