EFFICIENCY ASSESSMENT OF COLD SUPPLY CHAINS IN THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CONTEXT
Abstract
The article is devoted to the development of methodological principles for evaluating the cold supply chains efficiency within the framework of the sustainable development concept. The study substantiates the relevance of cold logistics as a critical element of modern supply chains that ensures product quality, safety and preservation of consumer properties of perishable goods, particularly in the food and pharmaceutical sectors, where strict temperature control is a prerequisite for product usability and public health protection. The relationship between cold logistics and cold supply chains is analyzed, emphasizing their role as an integrated system that combines technological, organizational and managerial components under continuous temperature monitoring and information support. Special attention is paid to transport and logistics companies as key players of the cold logistics market. The study proves that the efficiency of cold supply chains cannot be evaluated solely through financial indicators and must be aligned with sustainable development objectives. A comprehensive system of quantitative indicators for evaluating cold logistics efficiency is proposed. The indicators are grouped into three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. The economic dimension reflects profitability, reduction of product losses, utilization of transport and storage capacities and investment efficiency. The social dimension includes service quality, compliance with temperature regimes, personnel qualification and occupational safety. The environmental dimension covers energy efficiency, use of renewable energy sources, emission reduction and circular packaging practices. The application of an integrated approach will allow for the quantitative measurement of the implementation level for sustainable development principles and provide an objective comparison of enterprises operating in the cold logistics field. The implementation of an efficiency assessment system based on sustainable development principles allows for increasing the transparency of management processes, optimizing costs, reducing product losses, strengthening the competitive positions of enterprises, and creating a foundation for the transition to a circular logistics model.
