ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF DIGITALISATION OF ENTERPRISES’ FOREIGN ECONOMIC ACTIVITY UNDER MANAGERIAL UNCERTAINTY
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to substantiate the economic feasibility of digitalisation of enterprises’ foreign economic activity under conditions of managerial uncertainty. The research methodology is based on analytical generalisation of the functional capabilities of digital monitoring systems for foreign economic activity, conceptualisation of managerial uncertainty levels, and classification of enterprise digital maturity levels. Particular attention is paid to formalising the relationship between expected avoided losses resulting from reduced managerial uncertainty and the total costs of digitalisation, which allows the economic effects of digital solutions to be assessed not only in terms of operational efficiency, but also from a managerial and analytical perspective. The results of the study demonstrate that the economic effect of digitalisation in foreign economic activity is not universal and is not automatically achieved through the introduction of digital technologies. It is shown that the primary economic value of digital monitoring systems lies in their ability to reduce information asymmetry, shorten decision-making delays, and lower the cost of managerial errors in an uncertain external environment. An integral indicator of the economic feasibility of digitalisation of foreign economic activity (ΔC) is proposed, which reflects the balance between avoided losses and digitalisation costs. On this basis, a matrix of economic feasibility zones is constructed, illustrating how the boundaries of feasibility shift depending on the scale of foreign economic operations and the level of enterprise digital maturity. The practical significance of the results lies in the possibility of using the proposed indicator and matrix as diagnostic tools for analytical assessment of the feasibility of digitalisation of foreign economic activity at the enterprise level. The approach does not prescribe specific managerial actions or implementation algorithms, but provides a structured analytical framework for identifying conditions under which digital solutions are economically justified, marginal, or inefficient, thereby supporting more informed managerial decision-making under uncertainty.
