COOPETITION AS A STRATEGIC PARADIGM UNDER THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC INTERDEPENDENCE

Abstract

This article presents a comprehensive analysis of coopetition as an emerging strategic paradigm in global economic relations, examining its theoretical foundations, practical manifestations, and regulatory frameworks. The study traces the conceptual evolution of coopetition from early institutional economics theories developed by Thorstein Veblen and John R. Commons, who first emphasized the social embeddedness of economic transactions, through Henry Chesbrough's open innovation paradigm, to contemporary global coopetition theories advanced by Yadong Luo. The research demonstrates that coopetition represents an adaptive strategic response that enables various economic actors - including companies of different scales, nation-states, and international integration groupings - to navigate complex challenges of resource constraints, market volatility, and global interconnectedness. Particular attention is devoted to analyzing multi-level regulatory mechanisms spanning from national antitrust authorities to international institutions such as WTO, which establish crucial frameworks for balancing cooperative and competitive dynamics. The Arctic region serves as an empirical case study illustrating how geopolitical competition for resources and transportation routes coexists with intensive scientific-technological cooperation. The investigation encompasses detailed analysis of coopetition typologies, implementation mechanisms, and practical case studies of international strategic alliances across various sectors. The study argues that coopetition has evolved from a peripheral concept to a central paradigm in global economic strategy, particularly manifested through digital platform ecosystems, innovation networks, and complex value chains. The research concludes that coopetition represents a fundamental adaptive mechanism for navigating contemporary economic transformations, offering insights into future developments in international economic relations and strategic management practices. The findings emphasize coopetition's growing significance in addressing global challenges while maintaining competitive advantages in an increasingly interconnected world economy.
