Abstract

In recent years, despite the crisis period caused by the pandemic and military events, the tourism sector has demonstrated sustainable development. Changes in the tourism market are due to the transformation of tourist behavior, in particular in the ways of spending free time, priorities for choosing destinations and travel formats. Interest in conscious, environmentally responsible and personalized forms of tourism is growing, which reflects the change in the value orientations of society. The work, based on a review of domestic and foreign literature, examines the causes, needs and motives for the emergence of slow tourism as an alternative to mass tourism, its significance and characteristic features. Special attention is paid to the crisis period caused by the pandemic and war, which intensified the development of this direction. Slow tourism is considered as a component of the slow life system, which offers a leisurely, conscious approach to travel, deep immersion in local culture, support for local communities and minimization of negative impact on the environment. It is gaining popularity as a new megatrend that meets modern demands for quality, authenticity and sustainable development. The characteristic features of slow tourism that form its alternative to mass tourism are studied: long stay, slow pace, environmental awareness and social responsibility. The main motives of slow travel are identified - restoration, search for authenticity, avoidance of stress. A special segment of slow tourism is older people who have more free time and seek quality, peaceful rest. The importance of slow tourism for vacationers, territories and local communities in the context of sustainable development and support for the local economy is revealed. The compliance of different types of tourism with the principles of slow tourism is assessed. The prospects for the development of this form of tourism, motivating and demotivating factors of its spread are substantiated. The slow development of slow tourism in Ukraine is explained by a set of organizational and political factors, which requires state support and the formation of favorable conditions for the sustainable development of the industry.
