ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM: PRINCIPLES AND NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Abstract
The article examines the essence of the economic aspects of sustainable tourism, the benefits and challenges of implementing sustainable tourism development as a tool for economic, social and environmental progress. Research shows that sustainable tourism has significant economic potential for Ukrainian enterprises. Despite the difficulties, the implementation of sustainable development principles can ensure long-term competitiveness and financial stability of the tourism business. To implement this, close cooperation between business, the state and the public is necessary. It is noted that sustainable tourism is based on three interrelated principles: environmental sustainability, social responsibility and economic efficiency. The key economic advantages of this approach are characterized, in particular, cost optimization through energy-saving technologies, increased consumer loyalty and a multiplier effect on the development of regions. Data are provided that establish that up to 80% of revenues in a sustainable tourism model remain in the local economy through support for local producers, job creation and infrastructure modernization. The role of sustainable tourism in preserving cultural heritage is considered, in particular in the context of war-torn Ukraine. It is determined that the integration of sustainable development principles into reconstruction programs can become a key tool for combining economic viability and socio-cultural revival. However, it is established that the large-scale implementation of sustainable tourism faces a number of challenges: high initial costs, insufficient awareness of business and consumers, lack of state support. It is concluded that sustainable tourism is a strategic direction for Ukraine in the post-war period, as it combines economic benefits with social stability and environmental responsibility. It is proven that overcoming existing challenges will allow turning sustainable tourism into a powerful factor in the country's sustainable development.
