INNOVATIONS IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY AS A WAY TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Abstract
The article examines the relationship between the tourism industry, the hotel and restaurant industry and the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations. The tourism industry can rightly be considered as one of the most important factors in the development of the world economy, World Travel and Tourism Council together with Oxford Economics published the statistics on the share of the tourism industry in global GDP. These statistics established that according to forecasts by 2027, the share of the tourism industry in the world GDP may reach 11.7%. According to these data, the tourism industry has a very large impact on the development of the world economy. The development of the tourism and hospitality industry can be a driving force for development on the path to sustainable development. International law, in the way of development and cooperation of the international community also depend quite strongly on the tourism industry, so, considering innovations in the tourism and hospitality industries, we can see a direct impact on ensuring the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, which were established in 2015 within the framework of the United Nations. This international legal act established 17 sustainable development goals that are important for achieving the comprehensive well-being of the global economy and other areas of modern life. The Sustainable Development Goals are aimed at improving the world's economic situation, health, environmental protection, education, and other issues. The transition of the modern tourism industry to innovative methods, which include digital technologies, use of autonomous power systems, also called green electricity, waste recycling, testing products for toxins, replacing furniture, sheets and other things with natural materials, creates conditions for improving the economic situation of enterprises, which, for example, helps in creating new jobs and ensures the development of the state. Each state could receive more tax revenue from tourism businesses that will improve the economy of the country and the world, this changes will also ensure environmental protection, which are the goals of sustainable development that were established by the United Nations in 2015.
