TRENDS AND PROSPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIZED COMMODITY MARKETS
Abstract
The article examines the current state and prospects for the development of organized commodity markets in the face of global challenges and growing risks. It is stated that in modern conditions, there is a continued improvement of derivatives markets, associated with global economic crises, continued integration processes, financial engineering, further progress in technological support of exchange trading technologies, the use of artificial intelligence, and the development of information technologies and means of communication. According to the Futures Industry Association, over the past ten years there has been a clear trend in the annual growth of the number of transactions concluded on international organized commodity and financial asset markets. An analytical assessment of the volumes of transactions concluded on international exchanges indicates a dynamic growth in the volumes of derivative contracts concluded on international exchanges in 2024, reaching new record levels - 206.78 billion transactions, which amounted to more than 50.5% compared to 2023. The main trends in international organized markets were the shift of the center of exchange trading in commodity and financial assets from North America to Asia. It is noted that over the past five years, the most promising international organized markets for derivative contracts for investors are the exchanges of India and Brazil. At the same time, in the future, analysts also pay attention to the growth of organized markets in the Middle East. The formation and development of exchange trading in commodity assets in Ukraine in modern conditions takes place against the background of the reform of exchange trading on domestic organized commodity markets with the adoption of the Law of Ukraine "On Capital Markets and Organized Commodity Markets". The current state of organized commodity markets in Ukraine requires further structural restructuring, significant technological modernization, unification with the legal norms of the EU legislative framework and similar global standards. Promising directions for the development of domestic organized commodity markets are: universalization of domestic exchanges; development and implementation of commodity derivatives exchange trading.
