DIRECTIONS FOR ACTIVATING THE ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL POTENTIAL OF THE AGRO-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX OF THE REGION
Abstract
The article explores the theoretical foundations and practical mechanisms for activating the economic and environmental potential of the agro-industrial complex (AIC) at the regional level, emphasizing the need for sustainable development under current economic, ecological, and geopolitical challenges. The study highlights the relevance of combining resource efficiency with ecological responsibility to ensure long-term competitiveness and food security. Using the Vinnytsia region as a case study –a key agricultural hub in Ukraine – the paper presents an in-depth assessment of the sector’s current state, risks, and opportunities. Among the identified challenges are land degradation, declining soil fertility, biodiversity loss, insufficient investment in eco-oriented technologies, and logistical disruptions caused by military aggression and global instability. The research focuses on evaluating strategic planning documents, regional development programs, institutional frameworks, and policy tools aimed at supporting the agricultural sector. Particular attention is given to initiatives promoting organic farming, clustering of agribusinesses, access to green financing, state and international support programs, and the implementation of innovative agro-technologies. The article proposes a set of practical recommendations to enhance the institutional environment, stimulate investment activity, and integrate environmental standards into agricultural governance. It is argued that the transition to a sustainable, innovation-driven model of regional AIC development requires not only economic modernization but also a shift toward nature-based solutions and systemic ecological monitoring. The findings contribute to the development of effective regional strategies for increasing agricultural productivity while reducing environmental impact and improving the resilience of rural areas in the face of multifaceted threats.
