Abstract

This article investigates the pivotal role of lifelong learning in advancing the socio-economic mobility of Ukrainian IT professionals as a driver of economic growth and enhanced well-being. The study is contextualized within the disruptive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's full-scale invasion, emphasizing the necessity for labor market-relevant skills to ensure successful employment and career advancement. By analyzing the IT sector's contribution to national resilience and global economic competitiveness, the article underscores the importance of equipping the workforce with the competencies required by the industry. Socio-economic mobility in the IT sector is examined through an in-depth analysis of staff turnover trends in Ukraine's 50 largest IT companies, identifying the main causes of workforce reductions and examining employment dynamics in outsourcing, product, and hybrid firms. The findings reveal a troubling decline in employment, with significant implications for labor mobility. The study further identifies barriers to mobility and highlights the strategic role of leading IT companies in mitigating these challenges. The educational dimension is explored as a crucial accelerator of mobility, with a focus on the contributions of IT firms and EdTech initiatives to workforce competitiveness, particularly for younger generations and vulnerable groups. These efforts address the gap left by Ukrainian educational institutions, which struggle to align technical training with global IT market demands. Concluding, the article calls for coordinated efforts among the state, IT companies, and academic communities to reform the educational system, enhance workforce readiness, and improve the socio-economic mobility of IT specialists in light of emerging technological, economic, and geopolitical realities. The author integrates the article's findings and implications into a compelling and cohesive narrative while ensuring clarity and precision.
