Abstract

In the complex of tasks directly related to ensuring sustainable, human-dimensional progress, scientific support for the formation and development of the platform economy and its inherent institutions, which include platform employment as their component, is of utmost importance ‘Digitisation’ in its broadest sense has led to formation of a new normal in the social and labour sphere, which requires new approaches to its interpretation, and the society's understanding of the very philosophy of modern dramatic transformations, their consequences for economically active people and vectors for further human-centred development. The purpose of the article is to elaborate the authors' concept of platform economy's social and labour dimension, which is based on an ecosystemic vision of platform employment nature, its advantages, limitations and vectors of social quality improvement on digital platforms. The methodological basis for achieving the research goal are systemic and interdisciplinary approaches that served as a comprehensive vision of platform employment problematics and its social and labour dimension. The authors use a number of general scientific and special research methods, including theoretical generalisation, abstract and logical methods, to argue for the need to develop regulatory and legal support for employment relations on platforms. Among the obtained results is the disclosure of the newest facets of the platform economy as an institutional space and the dominant factor in the formation of platform employment, interpretation of the features of platform employment, which has a hybrid nature. The article contains a substantiation of the authors' concept of social and labour dimension of platform economy and platform employment. It has been proven that the platform economy remains an area of economic activity with a high level of hidden labour relations and undeclared employment. The problems of social protection and legal support for people employed on digital platforms have been highlighted. The necessity of strengthening the legal regulation of social and labour relations of employment under the new normal has been argued. The current state and prospects of international legal regulation of employment relations on digital platforms have been considered separately. The practical value of the study lies in the fact that the obtained scientific and applied foundations will serve to form an ecosystemic, human-dimensional thinking, emergence of new mechanisms and tools for regulating social and labour relations of employment on digital platforms.
