THE ROLE OF TOURISM IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN UKRAINE: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE ECONOMY
Abstract
Today, tourism plays an important role in sustainable development, but its development in Ukraine faces major challenges, such as military aggression and martial law, environmental pressure, preservation of cultural heritage, and social responsibility. Nevertheless, tourism also has the potential to generate economic growth, promote local development, and enrich cultural exchange between nations. The article aims to reveal the role of tourism in the sustainable development of Ukraine during the full-scale invasion and to highlight its challenges and opportunities. In order to achieve this goal, the article was written with the following objectives in mind: to define the role of tourism in the world; to highlight the features of sustainable tourism and its principles; to review and evaluate foreign experience in implementing the principles of sustainable tourism; to reveal problems and trends in the development of sustainable tourism in Ukraine in the context of military aggression and martial law. A critical analysis of scientific articles, books and other sources related to the role of tourism in the country’s sustainable development and the specifics of Ukrainian sustainable tourism was conducted. Scientific research methods were used, such as systematization of literary sources, critical analysis of information. The inductive method was used to classify foreign experience in sustainable tourism. Data from various sources were summarized, classified and analyzed to identify problems and trends in the development of sustainable tourism in the difficult conditions of martial law. The object of the article is the tourism industry of Ukraine. The subject of the article is tourism processes in sustainable development during the period of martial law. The study examined the Sustainable Development Goals, according to the UN General Assembly Resolution, which relate to the tourism industry. The study analyzed the challenges facing sustainable tourism in Ukraine and summarized trends in its development in the context of martial law in Ukraine. Further research could focus on the development of new tourism management strategies, taking into account a balanced approach between economic, socio-cultural and environmental aspects. It is also important to consider the impact of innovative technologies on the sustainability of the tourism sector and explore mechanisms of cooperation between economic sectors to achieve more efficient and sustainable development.
