ASSESSMENT OF THE INNOVATIVE POTENTIAL OF INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISES: PROBLEMS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The article evaluates the innovative potential of industrial enterprises, indicating the problems that prevent their sustainable development. It is substantiated that indicators of innovative activity of enterprises become priority factors in assessing the economic strength of the country and its global prospects. The priority of innovative activities of enterprises, which involves the development and implementation of the latest technologies, the optimal use of the country's resource potential, the formation of GDP and the creation of jobs, has been determined. The indicators of the implementation of innovations at industrial enterprises of Ukraine for 2016–2020 were analyzed, which showed the absence of an effective strategy for the sustainable innovative development of the industry of Ukraine. The indicators characterizing the innovative activity of industrial enterprises of Ukraine in 2016–2020 were studied, which showed a negative trend of decreasing the number of innovatively active enterprises. The restraining factors regarding the increase in the innovative activity of the industry are substantiated. The lack of state support for innovations in industry is substantiated and the main reasons that slow down the state's participation in the production sector are identified. Ukraine's place in international rankings reflecting innovative development was studied, and Ukraine's position as a slow innovator was determined. However, according to this rating, Ukraine has high indicators for the level of employment in knowledge-intensive activities and for the export of knowledge-intensive services. Indicators of financing, support of innovations and intellectual property, state expenditures on innovative activities are recognized as weak positions of Ukraine in this rating. The position of Ukraine among the countries of Europe according to the composite innovation index in 2021 was studied, and the systemic lag behind the country's economy compared to other European countries was determined. It is noted that the country's low level of development and a deep systemic crisis complicate the further process of increasing the innovative potential of industry. Taking into account the existing difficulties in the development of the innovative sector of industry, it is recognized as appropriate to use in domestic practice positive foreign experience in creating an ecosystem of innovations aimed at business development, satisfaction of own needs and powerful exports.
