CURRENT TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE WORLD GRAIN MARKET IN THE CONDITIONS OF WAR IN UKRAINE
Abstract
Ukraine occupies an important place in the world grain market and is a guarantor of global food security, and has great potential for increasing grain production and export. Our country is one of the five largest grain exporters in the world in terms of export volumes. At the same time, Ukraine exports 75% of its production, while domestic consumption is only 20-25%. Thus, the country supplies food to three times more people outside its borders than the population of Ukraine. More than 400 million people in the world depend on grain supplies from Ukraine. The purpose of this study is to determine the current trends in the development of the world grain market and the place of Ukraine in it in the conditions of the war in Ukraine. The theoretical basis of this article is the modern principles of science and the theoretical and applied principles of the development of the grain market of Ukraine, scientific works and practical studies of both domestic and foreign economists in this field, as well as regulatory and statistical materials. The article is devoted to the study of modern trends in the development of the world grain market and the place of Ukraine in it in the conditions of war. It is emphasized that in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, although the invasion of Russia significantly deprived Ukraine of the opportunity to export grain crops, the country continues to be one of the leading producers and exporters of grain in the world. It was determined that since the beginning of the Russian aggression, the world began to feel the insufficiency of Ukrainian wheat. The main producing countries and wheat exporters were analyzed, as well as the main importing countries of Ukrainian wheat were highlighted. The dynamics of world production, supply and stocks of fodder crops in the current period and their forecast are evaluated. Ukraine is an important player in the world grain market and has the potential to increase production and export of grain, which is an important element of food security in the world. Despite the war, agricultural products continue to be the main source of foreign exchange earnings for Ukraine. In 2022/23, Ukraine will still enter the TOP-10 world producers of major grain crops, despite Russia's military aggression on the territory of our country.
