DIGITALIZATION AS A CATALYST FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTELLECTUAL POTENTIAL OF AN INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISE

Abstract

The relevance of this study stems from the growing role of intellectual resources as the primary source of competitive advantage for industrial enterprises in the modern digital economy. While digitalization reshapes business models and management approaches, its impact on intellectual potential remains underexplored, particularly in the Ukrainian industrial context. The purpose of this article is to reveal the mechanism by which digitalization influences the development of an industrial enterprise's intellectual potential and to substantiate the conditions under which this influence generates sustainable competitive advantages in dynamic and uncertain environments. The research draws on systemic analysis, a structural-functional approach, and a comparative method. The theoretical foundation integrates international peer-reviewed publications and Ukrainian scholarly sources in management, knowledge management, and digital transformation. The study demonstrates that intellectual potential consists of three core components: human capital, intangible assets, and social capital, each undergoing qualitative transformation under digital technologies. Empirical evidence from 5,140 manufacturing firms confirms that digital transformation strengthens the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation outcomes. A meta-analysis of 109 studies confirms a statistically significant positive effect of digital technologies on firm performance, especially innovation activity and adaptability. An original definition of intellectual potential in a digital context is proposed, along with a three-channel impact model linking specific digital tools to each component. The article analyzes the current state of digital transformation in Ukraine and identifies key barriers and institutional constraints affecting the industrial sector. The practical value lies in providing managers with a framework thatlinks digital investment decisions to intellectual growth and long-term performance in competitive markets and global value chains today(etc).
