NATURE RESERVE FUND AS A RESOURCE FOR INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL TOURISM IN VOLYN REGION
Abstract
The article examines the nature reserve fund as a strategic resource for the innovative development of rural tourism in the Volyn region. The study aims to assess the current use of protected areas for rural tourism development, identify key challenges and opportunities, and substantiate innovative approaches to improving their management. The research is based on analysis and synthesis, comparative, statistical, SWOT, and cartographic analyses, as well as graphical modelling. The information base includes legislative documents, scientific publications, statistical data, and official materials of protected area administrations. The tourism potential of the main protected areas of the Volyn region, including Shatskyi National Nature Park, Prypiat–Stokhid National Nature Park, Cheremskyi Nature Reserve, and Tsumanska Pushcha National Nature Park, is analysed. Based on the conducted SWOT analysis, the study identifies the key factors influencing the innovative development of rural tourism within protected areas. The study identifies the main barriers to tourism development, namely insufficient infrastructure, limited digitalisation, weak marketing, and inadequate cooperation among stakeholders. At the same time, considerable opportunities are associated with digital technologies, cluster cooperation, environmental education, and sustainable tourism practices. The scientific novelty of the study consists in the development of an author's mechanism for the use of the nature reserve fund as a resource for the innovative development of rural tourism. The proposed model integrates digital technologies, smart tourism solutions, cluster cooperation, environmental education, modern marketing instruments, and the principles of sustainable development. The practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of applying the proposed recommendations in regional tourism development strategies, spatial planning documents, management plans for protected areas, and programmes aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of rural destinations and ensuring the conservation of natural heritage in the Volyn region.
