PROSPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NOSTALGIC TOURISM IN UKRAINE UNDER THE CONDITIONS OF MARTIAL STATE AND POST-WAR RECONSTRUCTION
Abstract
The article examines the essence, resources, and contemporary transformations of nostalgia tourism in Ukraine under martial law and outlines its development prospects in the post-war period. It elaborates theoretical approaches to interpreting nostalgia tourism as a form of mobility that restores spatial identity, cultural memory, and social ties. A classification of nostalgia tourism resources (tangible, intangible, and socio-institutional) is systematized, and their role in shaping personalized tourist experiences is determined. The impact of Russian aggression on the geography, motivations, and functions of nostalgia tourism is analyzed, particularly in the context of large-scale internal displacement and the formation of new diaspora communities. It is substantiated that, under wartime conditions, nostalgia tourism acquires the features of “interrupted return” and becomes closely intertwined with memory practices. The potential of this type of tourism as a tool for post-war territorial recovery, population reintegration, and the revitalization of local economies is identified. Priority directions for state and regional policy in the field of nostalgia tourism are outlined, along with opportunities for the tourism industry to develop specialized products (genealogical tours, homecoming programs, digital services). The necessity of balancing economic efficiency with ethical sensitivity to issues of memory and the consequences of war is emphasized. It is concluded that nostalgia tourism can become an important factor of sustainable development in Ukraine in the post-war period, provided a systematic approach to its governance is ensured. Particular attention is paid to methodological aspects of the study, including the application of an interdisciplinary approach that integrates tools from human geography, tourism studies, sociology, and cultural studies. The relevance of combining qualitative methods with spatial analysis and migration research is substantiated. This solution enables a comprehensive assessment of the role of nostalgia tourism in the transformation of socio-spatial systems and provides a basis for substantiating directions for its further development in Ukraine.
