ENTERPRISE COMPETITIVENESS IN THE CONTEXT OF DIGITALIZATION: THE ROLE OF INNOVATION AND ICT SUPPORT
Abstract
The article substantiates the strategic role of innovation activity and information and communication support in ensuring the competitiveness of enterprises amid the rapid digitalization of the national economy. In the current market environment, characterized by high uncertainty and swift technological shifts, a company's success depends on its ability to adapt to external changes and transform business processes through technological advancement. The study examines the complex relationship between innovative activity, the level of digital tool integration, and overall business performance based on an analysis of statistical data from 2018-2024. The analysis revealed that while the number of innovatively active enterprises in Ukraine has shown growth, the dynamics were significantly influenced by changes in statistical methodology, specifically the transition to the Oslo Manual 2018 guidelines. A major structural transformation in innovation expenditures was identified: the share of the «Information and Telecommunications» sector increased nearly sixfold, reaching 15,9% by 2024, which confirms a strategic pivot toward digital and service-oriented models. At the same time, traditional sectors like transport and storage saw a tenfold decrease in their share of innovation costs. Furthermore, the research highlights the rapid growth in the volume of sold innovative products in 2024, driven by the militarization of the innovation sphere and the development of the national Military-tech cluster. Despite these positive trends, the overall share of innovative products in total sales remains low, indicating that the innovation potential is not yet fully realized across the broader economy. The study also evaluates the use of ICT, noting a rise in cloud computing and broadband access. The authors conclude that the paradigm of competitiveness is shifting toward knowledge and digital synergy. Achieving sustainable market positions requires a transition to a systemic innovation-digital transformation that enables enterprises to create long-term competitive advantages in global markets.
