THE IMPACT OF CHANGES IN THE MARRIAGE AND FAMILY STRUCTURE OFTHE POPULATION ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE: CHALLENGES OF WAR
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of changes in the marriage and family structure of the population on the quality of their life in conditions of full-scale Russian aggression. The study is based on information from open sources, data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the Department of State Registration of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, expert assessments, and materials from sample surveys. The methods of comparative analysis, generalization and induction, survey, and systematic approach were used. The article examines changes in the family structure of the population of Ukraine in the context of their impact on the quality of life of the population. Quality of life is a general indicator of the general well-being of the population; it is influenced by many factors. It has been proven that marriage and family ties directly affect the quality of life of both the population as a whole and each individual. In the pre-war years, the family structure of the population of Ukraine was typical of a modern developed society, the variety of forms of family unions contributed to the flexibility and adaptability of the family structure and, despite certain problems and risks contributed to improving the quality of life of the population. Currently, a full-scale war in Ukraine has become a factor that significantly affects marriage and family processes. The shifts in the marital and family structure that arose as a result of the war - an increase in the number of single-parent families, families where children live without parents with relatives or adoptive parents, households where single people of the oldest age live, families with forced long-distance marriages (these are families of mobilized people) can be characterized as a deformation of this structure, and this reduces the quality of life of families and the population as a whole. State socio-demographic policy must be based on reliable information about all demographic changes, including shifts in the family structure of the population, and this is a guarantee of its effectiveness during the war and in the post-war period.
