CLASSIFICATION OF GOODS IN MODERN CONDITIONS: DIGITAL TOOLS AND SYSTEMS
Abstract
This article analyzes modern approaches to goods classification in international and domestic trade, emphasizing digitalization, automated systems, and AI. It reviews legal, economic, logistical, and statistical foundations of classification and examines the use of Harmonized System (HS) codes in global companies and at ATB-MARKET LLC. Special focus is placed on digital tools, machine learning, blockchain, and cloud platforms that improve speed, accuracy, and transparency in supply-chain processes. The study aims to explore theoretical principles of product classification and assess the potential of digital instruments for enhancing customs, logistics, and business operations. Key tasks include determining the significance of classification, analyzing AI-based tools, identifying challenges of traditional methods, and evaluating the effectiveness of digital solutions used by corporations. Scientific novelty lies in integrating technological and regulatory perspectives and highlighting issues such as inconsistencies in norms, difficulties in classifying multifunctional goods, and limitations of early AI models. The need for harmonized standards to support digital transformation is emphasized. Practical value is demonstrated through systems used by Apple, Amazon, Samsung Electronics, Tanner Pharma, and Nike. Automation reduces processing time, minimizes errors, strengthens compliance, and optimizes logistics. A case study of ATB-MARKET LLC shows how HS codes improve customs procedures, reduce costs, and increase transparency. Survey data confirm that digital tools—price tags, information screens, barcodes—enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. The study concludes that classification is a complex process requiring accuracy and technological integration. Digital tools and AI help reduce errors, accelerate customs clearance, and support compliance. Future improvements include harmonizing standards, enhancing interoperability, and expanding machine learning and blockchain use in classification systems.
