INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL TOURISM IN VOLYN REGION AS A FACTOR OF MODERNIZATION OF THE TOURISM INDUSTRY
Abstract
The article examines the principles, approaches and potential of innovative development of rural green tourism in Volyn region as an important factor of modernization of the regional tourism sector. Rural green tourism is considered as a multifunctional socio-economic activity combining recreation, environmental, cultural and economic components and contributing to diversification of employment and sustainable development of rural territories. The study substantiates that Volyn region possesses significant natural-recreational and historical-cultural potential, including a dense network of rivers and lakes, high forest cover, protected areas, national nature parks and a large number of cultural heritage sites, which create favorable conditions for the development of rural tourism. At the same time, the development of rural green tourism is constrained by a complex of institutional, infrastructural and organizational barriers, such as insufficient legal regulation, lack of reliable statistical data, weak marketing support, limited access to financial resources, low qualification of farmstead owners and the absence of a unified digital platform for booking and promotion of agro-estates. Security challenges and geopolitical risks, especially in the northern border areas of the region, also significantly affect tourism attractiveness. The paper analyzes the territorial distribution of agro-estates in Volyn region and reveals a pronounced spatial concentration within Kovel district, which is associated with the recreational potential of the Shatsk lake area. The article emphasizes the importance of innovation implementation, particularly digitalization, ecological technologies and cluster-based development models. A successful example of cluster formation is the rural tourism cluster “Vodny Plesa of Kamin-Kashyrskyi Region”, created within an international development project, which demonstrates the effectiveness of network cooperation, branding and integrated tourist product formation. The research concludes that cluster-based models and innovative approaches contribute to increasing competitiveness of rural tourism, stimulating local entrepreneurship, improving employment opportunities and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of rural communities in Volyn region.
