ORGANIZATIONAL AND ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES OF COST MANAGEMENT AS A FACTOR IN ENSURING THE PROFITABILITY OF AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISES (CASE STUDY OF POLTAVA REGION)
Abstract
The article substantiates the organizational and economic principles of cost management as a key factor for ensuring the profitability of agricultural enterprises in the Poltava region under unstable conditions. The relevance of the study is determined by the critical increase in operational costs by 60% over 2017-2024, including a 112% surge in labor costs, which has led to a loss of cost control and poses a direct threat to financial security, reducing the sales profitability margin from 7.19% to 1.20%. A detailed analysis of cost structure dynamics reveals significant detrimental shifts. In the production cost structure, the share of direct labor costs almost doubled from 16.1% to 29.9% against a backdrop of reducing personnel, indicating a sharp decline in labor productivity. The share of "other agricultural products" (likely feed, seeds) within material costs increased from 8.7% to 13.8%, signaling potential internal process inefficiencies. Conversely, the share of mineral fertilizers plummeted from 10.5% to 1.1%, posing a long-term threat to soil fertility. A product-level profitability analysis exposed extreme differentiation: from highly profitable grains (46.9%) and sunflower (38.9%) to loss-making sugar beet (-27.2%) and poultry meat (-112.6%) production in 2024. This highlights ineffective resource allocation between business segments. The study justifies a conceptual cost management model integrating normative control, production process optimization, and resource efficiency analysis. The model is aimed at transitioning from passive cost monitoring to an active policy of managing their structure and dynamics. The core conclusion emphasizes that a comprehensive approach is crucial, enabling the localization of main "cost centers" and reallocation of resources to the most profitable production lines. Practical implementation requires adopting a system of normative cost accounting, regular product-specific cost analysis, and optimization of technological processes to ensure the financial sustainability and competitiveness of agricultural enterprises in the region.
