MECHANISMS OF GREENING AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION AS A PLATFORM FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL GREEN TOURISM IN UKRAINE
Abstract
The study explores the mechanisms of ecological transformation in agricultural production as a foundation for developing rural green tourism in Ukraine, emphasizing the strong interconnection between sustainable farming practices and the tourism sector. It identifies key drivers for ecological modernization, including environmental degradation, soil fertility decline, water resource limitations, climate change impacts, and growing societal and market demand for organic and environmentally responsible products. The research highlights the most effective instruments for contemporary agri-businesses, such as organic farming, integrated crop and livestock management, energy-efficient and low-emission technologies, and ecosystem services assessment, which collectively enhance productivity, biodiversity, landscape quality, and environmental health, thereby making rural areas more attractive and competitive for tourism development. The study also demonstrates how ecologically oriented agricultural production generates significant added value for rural tourism by creating scenic, healthy, and environmentally sustainable environments, supporting local food and craft markets, and promoting cultural and recreational opportunities in rural communities. Integrated models that combine agriculture and tourism, such as farm stays, agritourist trails, eco-cooking experiences, and culinary tourism based on local organic products, facilitate sustainable resource use while providing economic and social benefits to local populations. The research identifies barriers to successful implementation, including limited financial and technical resources, insufficient farmer knowledge, and infrastructure deficiencies, emphasizing the need for coordinated policy support, certification programs, financial incentives, and education initiatives. Overall, ecological modernization in Ukraine functions not only as a strategy for environmental and economic sustainability but also as a robust platform for rural green tourism, fostering regional competitiveness, resilience, and long-term socio-economic development.
