PREREQUISITES FOR THE FORMATION OF AN INNOVATIVE STRATEGY FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSPORT ENTERPRISES
Abstract
This article explores the formation of a modern strategy for sustainable growth of transport enterprises amid environmental, economic, and technological challenges. It emphasizes the integration of digital technologies, environmental responsibility, and economic stability into transport planning to maintain competitiveness during climate change, resource scarcity, and economic shifts. These factors require transport companies to rethink traditional operational models and embrace innovation across all levels of activity. A forward-looking strategy must also address regulatory pressures, customer expectations for sustainability, and the need for resilience in an increasingly uncertain global landscape. The study reviews key models for assessing sustainability: the Brundtland model (intergenerational equity), Triple Bottom Line (people, planet, profit), the Integral Sustainable Development Model, Sustainable Process Index (SPI), Capitals Approach (natural, human, social, and manufactured capital), and the Risk-Informed Sustainable Development Model (SDRIM), which incorporates risk analysis into decision-making. Practical tools like benchmarking, ESG indices, and SWOT analysis are analyzed for their effectiveness in evaluating sustainability in the Ukrainian transport sector, where infrastructure, regulations, and markets are volatile. The article stresses the need for accurate data, constant monitoring, and risk management to develop effective long-term strategies. Drawing on best practices from Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland, the authors show that investments in electric mobility, green infrastructure, smart logistics, and digitalization foster sustainability and modernization. Key conditions for strategic progress include infrastructure renewal, adoption of clean technologies (e.g., electric, hydrogen transport), digital logistics transformation, and access to financing. The authors conclude that a balanced, interdisciplinary approach — integratingintegrating environmental, economic, and social aspects — is essential for ensuring competitiveness, resilience, and adaptability of transport enterprises amid structural and geopolitical transformations.
