MODERN ECONOMIC DIMENSION OF SECURITY: RISKS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Abstract

The current state of Ukraine’s economic security is significantly complicated by the full-scale military aggression of the russian federation. This article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the modern aspects of Ukraine’s economic security in the context of ongoing war, which presents an unprecedented and prolonged challenge to the country’s economic sustainability. Particular attention is paid to the impact of hostilities on the critical components of economic security, including energy infrastructure, financial stability, industrial capacity, labor markets, and logistical chains. The study highlights the deteriorating domestic production potential, deepening inflationary pressures, capital outflows, disruption of international trade relations, and the escalating dependency on external financial and humanitarian support. The article also addresses the intensified risks related to social instability, poverty, migration, and regional economic disparities. In addition to assessing short-term threats, the paper evaluates long-term structural challenges and outlines the strategic potential for Ukraine’s post-war economic recovery. Emphasis is placed on prospects for sustainable reconstruction through integration into international economic and security institutions, acceleration of digital transformation, modernization of critical infrastructure, and a green energy transition. Special attention is given to governance reforms and institutional capacity-building as preconditions for effective reconstruction. The analysis formulates a range of recommendations aimed at overcoming the identified risks. These include strengthening energy independence, enhancing anti-corruption mechanisms, restoring investor confidence, improving fiscal and monetary policy coordination, and creating an inclusive framework for private sector engagement. The study concludes that a systemic and forward-looking risk management approach is essential to maintain economic resilience, ensure national sovereignty, and lay the foundation for inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the post-war period.
