WINERIES OF THE LVIV REGION AS A FACTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENOTOURISM IN THE REGION

Abstract

The article examines the wineries of the Lviv region as a factor in the development of enotourism. The historical prerequisites for winemaking in the region are analyzed, dating back to the 15th century, when the first grapevines were planted on the slopes of Vysokyi Zamok. The study explores the cyclical nature of winemaking in Lviv, influenced by socio-political changes, including the Soviet anti-alcohol campaign and the annexation of Crimea, which led to the revitalization of viticulture in western Ukraine. The article presents an overview of contemporary winemaking enterprises in the Lviv region, including Most Wine, Petervine, Axis Wine, Yanchyn Hills Family Winery, and Halytska Soroka. These wineries combine traditional and innovative approaches, cultivating both local and imported grape varieties. The study highlights the importance of climate change, which is making viticulture in the region increasingly viable due to milder winters. Despite legal and logistical challenges, the industry is expanding, with local winemakers focusing on high-quality, craft production. Special attention is given to enotourism as a promising direction for regional economic development. Wineries are actively integrating tourism services, offering tastings, vineyard tours, and educational experiences. Events like the Lviv Art and Wine Weekend play a crucial role in promoting local winemaking and enhancing its cultural and economic impact. The study concludes that Lviv’s wineries have the potential to establish the region as a new center of high-quality Ukrainian winemaking and enotourism. The research also examines the role of winemaking in shaping the gastronomic identity of the region and increasing its attractiveness for domestic and international tourists. The integration of traditional winemaking techniques with modern enological innovations has positioned Lviv's wineries as unique destinations for wine enthusiasts. The development of small-scale, craft wineries not only strengthens the regional economy but also contributes to the global recognition of Ukrainian wine culture.
