THE ESSENCE, CLASSIFICATION AND FUNCTIONS OF EXTERNAL INVESTMENTS IN THE ACTIVITIES OF ENTERPRISES
Abstract
The article is devoted to the essence, classification and functions of external investments in the activities and development of an enterprise. The relevance of studying external investments is determined not only by the shortage of financial capital faced by enterprises during the stage of intensive economic growth but also by their need for access to advanced developments and technologies, foreign markets for sales or supplies, expertise in effective corporate governance, protection of business from hostile takeovers or other negative unlawful influences by entities with authoritative powers, and more. The purpose of the article is to study the essence of external investments, their types and functions in the activities of enterprises. In the course of preparing the article, general and special methods of scientific research were used, in particular: the method of substantive analysis to establish the essence of investments; the method of deduction in substantiating the definition of foreign investments and the features of their classification; the classification method to characterize the types of foreign investments. The main research findings presented in the article include: substantiation of the essence of external investments of an enterprise in accordance with the property and capital approach; determination of the features of the classification of external investments, establishment of their types and provision of characteristics of each type; substantiation of the functions that external investments perform in the activities and development of enterprises. The conclusions of the article summarize the arguments presented therein regarding the essence, types, and functions of external investments of enterprises and establish prospects for further research on this topic. The theoretical value of the obtained research results lies in the development of the conceptual apparatus of investment. The practical value of the obtained results provides for the possibility of applying substantiated types and functions of external investments to develop an economic mechanism for attracting these investments to Ukrainian enterprises.
