The article examines the influence of the United Nations on tourism in the context of sustainable development. The United Nations is an international organization established in 1945, bringing together 193 states. The UN is a subject of international law, the main task of which is to cooperate in efforts to improve living conditions in all regions, overcome poverty, protect the environment, eliminate any conflicts between countries, and create a safe, peaceful, and developed world. The United Nations has a great influence on the development of many spheres of life in the world, including the tourism industry, which is very important for the development of countries and the world. Within the United Nations, there are many important structures that are divided into sectors for more effective development. For example, in the tourism sector there is the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which operates within the UN. For the general development of economic, social and other spheres of life, poverty alleviation, environmental protection, in 2015 the UN adopted a resolution, which consists of 17 sustainable development goals, these goals had a great impact on the tourism industry. The sustainable development goals were adopted for a more rapid and balanced development of countries and special attention is paid to such important components as economic, social and environmental development. These three components are the basis for the development of countries and the tourism industry. Tourism has great importance for world development. Tourism helps in the development of social standards, the protection of human rights and freedoms, environmental protection, the economy of countries, and others. The tourism industry, for example, has a great influence on the economic development of countries. A large share of the budget revenues of most countries comes from the tourism sector, in some countries the tourism sector even accounts for more than 50% of GDP, which shows how important tourism is for countries and the international community. The UN has proclaimed 2017 as the international year of sustainable tourism for development declared that this is a very important industry.
