THE FOOD SECURITY SITUATION IN THE WORLD AND THE MAIN TRENDS OF ITS PROVISION IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION BY CONTINENT AND COUNTRY
Abstract
The current state of food security in the world is characterised by many problems associated with insufficient food supply for citizens of different countries. Countries cannot provide their citizens with food in full, which leads to social and economic problems. Therefore, it was relevant to analyse the current state of food security in the world by examining the main trends in its provision in terms of production by continent and country. The purpose of the article is to study in detail the current state of food security in the world by analysing food production by country and continent. The article is based on scientific sources and statistical data, data from documents of international organisations, and regulatory acts. First, the author analyses the essence of the concept of ‘food security’ based on scientific sources, legislative acts and international documents. Identified the following threats to global food security: a significant increase in food prices; a global inflationary surge that has affected mainly African countries due to the unstable economic situation in the Middle East and North Africa. The general state of food security in the world is considered, identifying the main problems and the consequences that they lead to. The level of food security in the world is considered and the leading and anti-leading countries are identified. The analysis of food production volumes by country is carried out, identifying the leading countries in terms of production volumes. The volumes of production of cereals as the main type of food by continents are considered, based on cartographic materials from open sources. The analysis shows that the current state of food security in the world is negative. The way to improve the current state of food security is to address the existing problems, which will help to stabilise the economic situation in the countries of the world and prevent the emergence of future problems related to food security. The article is of great scientific importance in connection with the identification of the problems of global food security and the need to justify their solution.
