MODERN ASPECTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE IN UKRAINE UNDER WAR CONDITIONS
Abstract
The article explores the current aspects of the development of organic agriculture in Ukraine under the conditions of war. It was established that Ukraine had favorable conditions for the development of the organic sector before the war, but military actions significantly affected the reduction of agricultural land, damaged infrastructure, and caused logistical problems, which led to a shift in the development vector of the organic market. However, organic agriculture has the potential for recovery and growth. The article highlights global trends in organic production, which have shown an upward trajectory over the years. It also outlines the main principles of organic production, including the principles of health, ecology, fairness, and care. The article presents the consequences of the war on Ukraine's agriculture, specifically showing the dynamics of the number of organic operators and the area of organic land in Ukraine from 2010 to 2022. The organic map of Ukraine in 2022 is presented, noting that the largest areas were concentrated in the Odesa, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Poltava regions, although significant changes occurred during the war. The article also reflects the support for the organic sector in Ukraine, including grant programs, and the share of exporting countries in the total volume of organic agri-food imports. The dynamics of organic product imports by country of export are presented, with Ecuador and China leading in 2023, although in the previous year it was the Dominican Republic and Ukraine. Ukraine is a key supplier of organic grains, oilseeds, fruits, and berries. Despite challenging conditions, the organic sector in Ukraine continues to develop, maintaining stable positions in the international market. The relevance of the topic is due to the need to adapt agricultural practices to new realities, which creates unique challenges and opportunities for the development of organic agriculture in Ukraine.
