INVESTIGATING THE LEVEL OF JOB SATISFACTION: WORKING IMMIGRANTS FROM FORMER USSR IN IRELAND

Abstract

Article is based on my own dissertation completed during Master in International Business Dissertation preparation and investigates the level of job satisfaction experienced by immigrants from former USSR working in Ireland. Firstly, for the purpose of this research, job satisfaction is examined under three characteristics of job, individual and organisational variables, which are said to be among the most influential factors, which could affect the level of job satisfaction. Relationships between job satisfaction and the above three factors have been examined. Also the impact of the cultural context based on the Hofstede and Bond’s cultural dimensions is investigated and its influence on the level of job satisfaction is recorded. Secondly, current research has been based on the questionnaire distributed among immigrants on the streets of Dublin, originating from 15 former republics of Soviet Union presently working in Ireland. Finally, both groups of immigrants, BALTA (immigrants from Baltic states) and SovCamp (immigrants from former 12 republics of USSR) have reported a high level of job satisfaction, with respondents from the former group being more satisfied with their jobs than the latter. Possible future research on the level of job satisfaction experienced by immigrants in different countries should incorporate this new differentiated look through the lens of multiculturalism, which will help to develop a better understanding of such an important issue as raising job satisfaction among immigrants. The author emphasizes the importance of job satisfaction, linking it to positive outcomes for both employees and organizations, including improved productivity and a happier work environment. Organizational commitment, along with collaboration with colleagues and relationships with supervisors, as well as job characteristics such as skill utilization, task clarity, and salary satisfaction, have been identified as the most influential factors significantly impacting job satisfaction.
