DECARBONIZATION OF THE ECONOMY AS A FACTOR FOR ENSURING A CLIMATE-NEUTRAL FUTURE: CURRENT CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS IN UKRAINE AND IN THE WORLD
Abstract
The article focuses on the issues of decarbonizing the economy and its crucial role in achieving a climate-neutral future. The urgency of addressing climate change is becoming increasingly obvious due to the global ecological problems and natural disasters. The problems and prospects of decarbonization of the economy as a core precondition for ensuring a climate-neutral future are examined in the article. Current challenges and directions of decarbonization of the economy in Ukraine and at the global level are determined. The impact of increasing greenhouse gas emissions on climate change is analyzed and the need to implement urgent measures to reduce emissions of CO2 and other harmful substances into the atmosphere is grounded. Modern approaches and initiatives aimed at decarbonization are investigated, such as: the use of renewable energy sources, the implementation of «green» technologies in industry, energy efficiency projects, the development of electric mobility, etc. By exploring a variety of technologies and initiatives, the potential ways to achieve decarbonization, covering the transition to renewable energy sources and the promotion of energy efficiency practices, are defined in the article. The results of the analysis allow to gain a deeper understanding of the prospects and potential ways of ensuring a climate-neutral future, based on the achievements and challenges faced by different countries. The progress of Ukraine in this direction is highlighted and the key threats faced by the country during the implementation of decarbonization projects, programs and strategies are described. The significance of decarbonizing the economy as a fundamental step towards achieving of sustainable development and climate-neutral future is proved. The conclusions concerning the importance and necessity of active international cooperation and implementation of measures to achieve global climate neutrality are formed. The results obtained during the research, which outline the role of decarbonization in combating the climate change, can from the informational basis for management decision-making by core stakeholders.
